Engagement to Wedding in Movies: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

There are a lot of angles when it comes to wedding themed movies. Mainly because there are so much to unpack. You would think that wedding, and subsequently marriage, only ever involves and concerns two people: the bride and the groom who are actually the main characters.

But you have got so much movies that feature the bride and the groom as background characters rather than the stars of the show. And these other people are usually the wildcards who are probably going to ruin the wedding. If you’re like me and you like watching wedding related movies, you must have seen a lot of weddings getting ruined.

So, let’s talk about the wedding movies out there. There are movies about the bridesmaids (Bridesmaids, obviously and 27 Dresses, definitely one of my absolute favourites), the groomsmen (The Hangovers, there are three of them for crying out loud), the Officiant (License to Wed, Robin Williams, I miss you), the wedding guests (Wedding Crashers and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), the family (oh god, the in-laws drama which made watching 2 My Big Fat Greek Weddings totally worth it) and so on and so forth. Trust me, I could go on and on and on with this list because I have had my share in watching funny and/or emotional wedding themed movies but I kind of have to get to the point by now.

Anyway, if any of you have watched The Five Year Engagement, you would know that a lot can get ugly in the time period after being proposed to up until being officially married finally. They were engaged for five whole years. It’s so unusually ridiculous because that’s just not it, fam. And don’t even get me started on how the Mother and Ted were engaged for five years and have their two children before a wedding even happen (although that’s not the only thing I’m mad about the series. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about).

If you go by the usual slash normal steps of the way leading up to the big day, you would have: the proposal, the engagement party, the bridal shower, the bachelorette party, the bachelor party, the rehearsal dinner, the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception. And yes, usually in that order, give and take a few changes here and there.

So yeah, with all those events you have to arrange and/or attend, there are bound to be great experiences and happy incidents. Especially for the bride and groom, because trust me, whether you register for gifts or not, people are definitely going to get you great wedding gifts and wedding wishes. Oh, hire a photographer and videographer if you can afford them because you’re going to want to look back to this big day of yours.

If you’re appointed as the maid of honour or the best man, you might think that it’s a huge responsibility since you’re probably going to be unpaid wedding planner. But it would all be worth it when the day of wedding comes. And you will definitely feel appreciated when you see the face of the bride or the groom during their bachelor or bachelorette party. To make sure you’re making memorable parties, you should definitely get awesome wedding t-shirts for the bridal party and the entourage. Plus exclusive t-shirts for the ones getting hitched. Because there might be the bad and the ugly as you taking the steps from engagement to the wedding but you need to stay for the good.
